Hitting Submit on a CDK Job Posting

Two employees talking in a semi-formal situationEver wonder what happens after you hit the “Submit” button on that job application? Today, the CDK Talent Acquisition team is sharing the inside scoop!

Applicant Tracking System – New Applicant!

First things first – as soon as you complete your applicant profile and hit “submit,” your file enters our applicant tracking system. This is the database that houses candidate applications and manages the workflow of interview progression. Congratulations – you’re now in the NEW APPLICANT stage! Our recruiters will take their first glance at your resume and any other supporting documentation you’ve provided as part of your candidate profile during this stage.

*TIP*  To give yourself the best chance at progressing to the “next” step, complete the application in its entirety (including salary expectations), ensure that you meet the job requirements listed on the job posting and provide an easily viewable resume highlighting relatable accomplishments (don’t forget to proofread!).

Screens & Interviews

Once a recruiter reviews your file, they will decide whether to move forward with an initial phone screen. We’re seeking alignment within your background to the skills needed to be successful within the role, team-specific needs, and how it all might translate into the overall organizational goals. We also look for people who will amplify our culture, too! After the screening call, interviews with the hiring team are appropriate.

*TIP* You may receive a message from the recruiter via text, phone call, email or social media message so be sure those modes of communication remain professional and that your voicemail inbox isn’t full.

Follow-Up

Once you’ve had the opportunity to speak with a recruiter and hopefully progressed into the formal rounds of interviewing, you’ll receive a follow-up message. Recruiters will most often loop back with you once they have information to share. Sometimes it’s great news notifying you of progression; sometimes, unfortunately, it’s not. Please be patient during this stage as recruiters are often awaiting updates from the interview panel or waiting for other interviewees to complete their rounds. Sometimes, we’re pushing back, advocating for reconsideration or even looking through other open positions that could align well with your background. We always welcome a quick text or email from you to check in, so feel free to do that.

*TIP* When receiving an update that is unexpected or less than desired, please remain professional and open to listening to constructive feedback. If we have specific feedback, we will share it. You can use this as an opportunity to improve for your next interviews you get, whether it be with CDK or elsewhere.
